Aroon
Aroon measures how recently the highest high and lowest low occurred, showing trend strength and direction.
What It Measures
Trend recency: whether the high (Aroon Up) or low (Aroon Down) is more recent, and how strong the trend is.
The Math (Simplified)
Aroon Up = 100 × (N - days since highest high)/N, Down = 100 × (N - days since lowest low)/N. Oscillator = Up - Down (-100..100).
Default Inputs & Tuning
14 days is standard (25 also common). Up above Down and near 100 signals a strong uptrend.
When It Works (Market Edge)
Detecting emerging trends: Up crossing above Down from below confirms a new uptrend early.
When It Fails
Consolidations: both lines hover around 50 and cross constantly, giving no trend edge.
Common Myths
Myth: Aroon predicts the duration of a trend.
Truth: It only tells you how recent the extreme was, not how long the trend will last. An old high can stay old while price chops.
