Supertrend Breakout
A volatility-adaptive trend line. Price above the line is bullish, below is bearish, and the line widens and tightens with how volatile the market has been.
Entry Logic
Buy when the close moves above the Supertrend line (ATR 10, x3 multiplier).
Exit Logic
Sell when the close drops back below the line.
How Rules Combine
Supertrend builds a band around the midpoint of each day's high-low range, widened by a multiple of ATR. The band only flips direction after a breakout, so it hugs trends and turns only when the trend breaks.
When It Works (Market Edge)
Strong sustained trends: the line stays on one side of price for the whole move and gives a clean exit near the end.
When It Fails
Ranging markets: the line flips frequently with each swing, producing a stream of small losing trades.
Common Myths
Myth: Supertrend is an unbeatable trend detector.
Truth: It is a lagging volatility band in the same family as a moving average. In ranges it flip-flops just like every other trend filter.
Myth: A higher multiplier makes Supertrend safer.
Truth: A higher multiplier reduces false flips but also delays the real exit, giving back more of the trend when it finally turns.
