Trend + Volume Confirmation
A composite strategy combining two indicators: it only buys when price is above its 50-day average AND volume is above its 20-day average — trend with participation.
Entry Logic
Buy when BOTH conditions hold: the close is above the 50-day SMA (trend up) AND volume is above its 20-day average (participation).
Exit Logic
Sell when the close drops below the 50-day SMA — the trend filter alone manages the exit.
How Rules Combine
Two indicators, one rule: the SMA(50) filters direction and the volume MA(20) filters conviction. Both must be true to enter; only the trend filter manages the exit.
When It Works (Market Edge)
Breakouts and trends accompanied by rising volume, where the extra confirmation filters out weak rallies.
When It Fails
Distribution and high-volume pullbacks: volume confirmation can fire exactly when large players exit into strength, and the volume filter adds no protection.
Common Myths
Myth: More conditions make a strategy safer.
Truth: Each added filter also removes trades. Volume confirmation skips quiet, legitimate breakouts and adds nothing in markets where volume is structurally heavy.
Myth: Two indicators make this strategy twice as smart.
Truth: Indicators are not independent. SMA and volume MA are both lagging averages; combining them filters trades, it does not predict.
